Get Your Head + Hands Into This Fight

Just what will it take for Harvard to survive, in excellence, importance, and independence? Harvard has never faced a crisis like this before, and conventional ideas probably aren't going to be enough. We both need new ideas, and to immediately do the hard work to make them work. That is our special focus -- are you game?

Become a student's "lifeline" to beat the ban

The role of a "lifeline" is to become an individual student's go-to friend-in-need, who helps get them every kind of help they need. Being a lifeline is partly about giving that person real support -- that they can always rely on your caring and actual aid -- and partly about becoming knowledgeable and adept at finding them all the best options our group has catalogued, then connecting them with the right people whenever they need more.

Join the Tax Withholding Strike

Cut your federal income tax withholding rate to reduce fascism's revenue this month. It's valid for taxpayers to do this, because they might be planning to have a lower tax bill in 2025, e.g. due to charitable contributions later this year. Like any other strike action, this "withholding strike" can be just temporary, or you could later decide to make it "permanent", by redirecting a portion of your 2025 tax dollars to charitable contributions, e.g. for helping students and researchers beat the ban. Only if your tax dollars are "still in your pocket" do you safely retain all those options. Find out more from our detailed analysis of these withholding and "defunding fascism" options.

Talk with your friends!

If we, the Harvard community, can bring our full strength -- our whole community -- in to join this fight, then our options and prospects will flip from hopeless to strong. If each person who decides to commit to this fight, can bring in two other people to commit to this fight, the viral growth of our effort across our whole community is guaranteed. And for this initial phase, that will be a victory in itself, because it is the whole key to our future in this fight.

A High Security zone for your political freedoms and personal safety

This is a time of unprecedented and ever-increasing threats to political freedoms and individual security -- a time when you can get deluged with death threats just for being a school librarian, or get hacked by just clicking a link. Protecting you is our top organizational expertise and priority. We do so by securing every aspect of our infrastructure and human operations, with end-to-end encryption and other strong fundamentals for information area-denial. In practical, concrete terms: end-to-end encryption means no one will know the shameful secret of what you do behind our closed doors -- how many Harvard students you rescued from the ever-scanning Eye of Sauron, or how many useful ideas you contributed to our community's Combined Operations Manual...

What are our effective alternatives?

Here are some visible pathways people are trying: (click on any of them to see our thoughts on each)

  • Donate money to Harvard, or the Alumni AssociationConundrum: This is a very worthy thing to do. However, Harvard has been raking in donations since time immemorial -- and just how much good has all that done in terms of preventing or disabling the "killing blows" now raining down on Harvard? Not much.
  • Stay informed via the media of the administration's latest actionsConundrum: at some point "staying informed" about an endlessly repetitive, harmful process just becomes doom-scrolling -- gawking in horror at the latest atrocities. This is just bad for your psychological health, and useless for Harvard.
  • Join a forum to discuss this on social media or elsewhereConundrum: people are very upset about this, and when emotions run high, discussions can become negative. Social media in general, and rants in particular, bend us towards the Dark side of the Force, aka fear and loathing. These "mind killer" emotions are not just distractions from, but actually the polar opposites of what we need now -- Courage and Generosity. Only the latter will empower us to DO what's needed: to take resourceful actions to help each other, and come together in solidarity and ingenuity to FIGHT this.
  • Join a protest or petition: start a social media or letter-writing campaign, make a podcast etc.Conundrum: more protests just equals more joy for Harvard's attackers, because then they know they're achieving their top goal aka "make the libs cry!" Petitions and protests will not deter or defeat this kind of opponent.
